Hair is healthy, shiny and soft to the touch. It contains just the right amount of water and lipids, from the roots to the tips, from the surface to the heart. It then reflects the light and is perfectly flexible. A healthy scalp feels comfortable, without itching or tightness. 
When the natural protective mechanism of the hair and scalp is lacking, hair is dry and dull. It is rough to the touch, even static. Detangling hair becomes a complicated task. The scalp is uncomfortable.

Hair structure 

The hair and scalp are not in direct contact with the external environment. They are enveloped by a very thin hydrolipidic film. This film acts as a barrier: it protects it from aggressors, maintains hydration and preserves nutrients within the hair. 

When the hydrolipidic film is intact, hair is shiny and soft to the touch.
The intercellular cement ensures the cohesion of the hair cuticle scales. And it is deep in the heart of the hair, in the cortex, that keratin strands are assembled.

Characteristics of dry hair 

 The hydrolipidic film is damaged on dry hair. It then loses its effectiveness.
When hair is no longer protected by this film, it is subjected to external aggressions and loses its essential moisturizing and nutritive elements. Hair then becomes dry or even very dry.
The intercellular cement no longer ensures the cohesion of the scales, which begin to rise up. The water naturally present in the hair escapes. 
You must then ensure better protection against aggressors (by repairing the hydrolipidic film) and maintain optimal hydration.

Characteristics of very dry hair 

 On a very dry hair, we find the same symptoms as on dry hair, but in an aggravated way. The damage is deeper.
On the surface, the protective hydrolipidic film has disappeared. Its barrier function is now non-existent.
The intercellular cement is altered, and the scales, which have become loosened, may even become detached. When exposed, the inside of the hair loses not only water, but also the lipids that are essential to hair health. At the heart of the cortex, the keratin strands begin to weaken.
In this case, there is an urgent need to provide better protection against aggressors. To do this, you must restore the lacking hydrolipidic film, deeply replenish lipids from the hair and scalp and strengthen the inner keratin strands that are weakened.
